Bateira Erveira Moliceira
My life has been combing the bottom of the estuary, to collect the moliço, and clearing the reeds and weeds, in the seas, to sell to farmers.
It at the Chegado that I keep my herb tree, which in Murtosa we call “Moliceira” , with its imposing 10 meters in length, 5 meters less than a moliceiro.
The moliceira was used to carry molice, reeds, brushwood and pasture. Some of these plants served as bedding for animals, others as food, while the molice was used to fertilize agricultural land. Our biggest buyers were actually the farmers, as we are a region where the land cannot live without the estuary, nor the estuary without the land.
While a moliceiro made a trip loaded, I, to transport the same load, had to make three trips.
I even went to Esgueira, where adobes (from lime and sand) were produced and shipped to Ribeira do Gago, in Bunheiro. I transported everything: people, animals, food products and construction materials.
The “Moliceira” sails by sail or pole and has falcas, just like the moliceiros. It is my work instrument, my means of transport and my fun in sailing boat regattas.
